I'm looking for an ebook reader which can read epub files and has a a good PDF support.

The reason is simple: currently my university (and not just them) only supplies the electronic versions of its books in PDF and trying to convert them to a more flexible format like epub via calibre has more downsides than advantages

I own both a Kindle 2 (smaller) and an iPad. Reading PDFs on the Kindle is very slow and very cumbersome as its display is too small. I wouldn't recommend the Kindle for PDFs. The Kindle DX has a bigger screen, but on the videos I've seen it didn't seem much faster with PDFs.

The iPad seems to be perfect for PDFs: it's fast, its screen is big enough. There is one catch, however: it's not easy to read on the iPad's glossy screen in sunlight or bright light. It's like the iPhone's screen.

Speed never bothered me, but faulty reading it's an issue for me – rmontagud Jul 13 at 17:01

I own a Kindle and it does not seems to be a good way to read PDFs as it is unable to reflow the text, so making the page wider or the font bigger.

I saw that the iPad's iBook will have a new capability to display PDFs and it might be able to treat these files as the other ebook formats where you can change the way the text is presented for better readibility.

That's dissapointing since Kindle was among my choices at the same time ipad wasn't because i'm looking for a e-ink device – rmontagud Jun 11 at 13:43
The best thing is to try one by yourself and see if the speed and the way it displays PDFs is good enough for you – Krisztian Gyuris Jun 14 at 19:07

I have the Kindle DX and it works pretty well. However it lacks zooming and text reflow, so I often reconvert PDF with Mobipocket.

Does it work ok and keeps all text and images? – Krisztian Gyuris Jul 15 at 4:18
Hmm not always... Of course, PDF is itself a fixed pagination format, so converting it to a flowing layout is not a straightforward task... – Lorenzo Jul 15 at 18:42
